Kitchen with a View

The sense of space, openness and clarity overwhelms in this kitchen with a view.  Haus mit Atelier (house and studio) in Waldstetten-WiƟgoldingen, German are designed by C18Architekten.  I wish I had a kitchen like this!

Birds are Everywhere in Interiors

Have you noticed that birds are to be found everywhere in interior design?  On trendy fabric, wallpaper, in art work and accessories.  Everywhere I look I seem to find birds.  Is it an extension and manifestation of the green trend in interiors?  I believe it is a deep human desire to get back to nature as a source of comfort in our homes.

Those Who Have Style

Some people have style. This is evident in the Copenhagen home of Danish photographer Pernille Enoch. The way she arranges her home seems so natural and simple, but the way she displays her personal things creates works of art in every corner.

Here are some images that caught my eye...

The Good Bits of Anish Kapoor

I watched a red waxy mixture being shot out of a canon with an eardrum-piercing explosion and splatter with abandon over the crisp, clean white walls of a prestigious London art gallery last autumn.  I must admit I wasn't impressed by the messy, loud exhibit at the Royal Academy. The reaction of onlookers varied, and a feeling of general bemusement was prevalent.  There were parts of the Anish Kapoor exhibition I hated - and some I loved.  This was my favourite...

And this was also beautiful...
All Tree and the Eye, the artist's major new sculpture, which was on display in the Annenberg Courtyard. "Infinitely repeating and reflecting its surroundings, like much of Kapoor’s work, this object both disorientates and distorts, challenging our traditional notion of form and space."

Texture and Colour in Harmony

The texture of the brick wall feature and the outdoor trees and grass make the interior surfaces zing to life.  I love the contrast between the smooth leather, stone bricks, high gloss wall unit in that super green which matches perfectly with the aubergine touchy-feely rug.  Balance also comes into play within the room with accessories and furniture displayed in pairs adding to the feeling of harmony.

Very Contemporary, Very Bright

This undulating yellow high gloss unit is a wonderfully warped version of a bed and stretches along two sides of the child's bedroom.  It is in the "dynamic, extremely fresh and vivid" home of Cesar, Roberta and Simone Micheli in Florence. The Italian residence is made up of 90% eco compatible materials.  The acid yellow lacquered unit is the support for toys, books and mattress and together with soda bubbles coming up from the bed and the curves of the round shaped desk, shelves and white ecoleather cylindrical pouf and round backlit mirror, make for a stimulating, fun and lively child's space for sleep, study or play.

Crisp and Clean Interior Design

The new collection by Jane Churchill features signature prints of flowers, with a freshness and honesty in their design.   The Spring 2010 Silks with crisp white and olive green...

And painterly florals seen here in a more contemporary setting...

Colour Frenzy

It's easy to add colour to your interior design if you take a look at the colour rich accessories at Anthropologie.   These corduroy cotton covered fabric letters come with an array of diamonds, spinning medallions, feathery sprays and graphic flora to create your own words with pops of abstract colour.

This hand-knotted wool crewelwork Dream Menagerie rug depicts a bustling jungle, teeming with grand wildlife and a forest's worth of foliage.

Tiptoe Through the Bluebells

Half of the world's bluebell population can be found in the UK.  Due to the harsh winter they have appeared a little later than usual so there's still plenty of time to tiptoe through the bluebells.  Find a bluebell wood near you at http://www.woodlandtrust.org.uk/.  Simply enter your postcode and you can find the nearest one to you.  Have a great weekend!

Rothko Inspired Art

I visited the Cyprus College of Art in Larnaca last month and met artist, Achilleas Kalopedis, currently doing his postgraduate MA degree in art there.  His Rothko-inspired pieces are full of atmosphere....

The exterior of the art college boasts beautiful architecture which is frequently found in Larnaca.

Another wistful piece by Kalopedis...

Trees Indoors

My fascination with trees is never ending. I'm always taking photos of them - to the amusement of many. Here's a great way to bring trees indoors with these removable vinyl wall stickers. The company do some fantastic designs such as this one....
or how about this one for a child's room.
Pop Wallz have a varied collection and designs are illustrated by hand before being cut.

Stranded in Cyprus

I was stranded in Cyprus for an extra week due to the volcanic ash cloud drifting over and affecting all European flights. My two week Easter holiday turned into three weeks. We chilled here by the sea....

enjoyed the sunshine....

and had a delicious meze lunch here....

before flying safely back home to London.
